School of Computer Science Engineering & Technology, Government College Dharamshala

The B.Tech (CSE) Induction Programme 2026–27 began with an enthusiastic and inspiring atmosphere at the School of Computer Science Engineering & Technology, Government College Dharamshala. The first day marked the beginning of a new academic journey for the newly admitted B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering students.

The programme brought together the college leadership, faculty members, distinguished resource persons, and students with the objective of introducing students to their new academic environment and providing them with an understanding of the opportunities available throughout their B.Tech journey.

A Warm Welcome to the New Students

The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the new B.Tech CSE students. The gathering included the respected Principal-cum-Director, Prof. Rakesh Pathania, Coordinator of B.Tech (CSE), Dr. Sanjay Jasrotia, faculty members, distinguished resource persons, and students.

The students were welcomed into a new phase of their education, where they would have opportunities to develop technical knowledge, practical skills, creativity, teamwork, leadership abilities, and professional confidence.

Address by the Principal-cum-Director

The programme proceeded with the presence and guidance of Prof. Rakesh Pathania, Principal-cum-Director, Government College Dharamshala. His presence provided an encouraging beginning to the induction programme and the students' academic journey.

His address encouraged the students to make effective use of the opportunities available during their college life and to develop themselves academically, professionally, and personally.

Resource Persons

An important highlight of Day 1 was the participation of distinguished academicians and professionals as resource persons.

Dr. Pradeep Singh

Dr. Pradeep Singh, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, was one of the distinguished resource persons.

His areas of specialization include Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He holds a B.Tech from GNDU Amritsar and a Ph.D. from NIT Hamirpur.

His expertise in AI and NLP provided students with exposure to important and rapidly developing areas of Computer Science.

Dr. Rajeev Kumar

Another distinguished resource person associated with Day 1 was Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Hamirpur.

Dr. Rajeev Kumar holds a Ph.D. and specializes in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Image Processing (DIP).

According to the programme presentation, he began his association with NIT Hamirpur as a lecturer on contract from 17 August 2005 to 3 August 2006 and has been a faculty member in the department since 2006.

His specialization introduced students to areas involving sensor networks, connected systems, IoT, and digital image processing, giving them a broader understanding of the diverse domains available within Computer Science and Engineering.

Introduction to the Computer Science Department and Website

Following the introduction of the resource persons, students were introduced to the Computer Science ecosystem of the institution and the department's online presence.

The department website provides a platform for students to stay connected with departmental activities and initiatives. The presentation identifies the Computer Science & Engineering Department website as part of the department's ecosystem.

The department's Computer Science ecosystem follows a structured roadmap for student development. It focuses on live project building, hands-on coding and deployment, GitHub and portfolio growth, hackathons and competitions, internship and placement preparation, senior peer mentorship, team management, and an active technical network.

This approach encourages students to move beyond classroom learning and develop practical, professional, and leadership skills.

Student-Led Clubs and Leadership

Students were also introduced to the Club Community, which is a student-led initiative within the department.

The club leadership structure includes the Student Clubs Executive Council, HOD, Faculty Advisor/Mentor, and student club leads. The General Secretary of the Student Clubs Executive Council is Vanshika Rana.

The major club leadership includes:

* Coding & Project Club – Technical & Projects Lead: Satyam Sharma
* Placement Club – Corporate & Placement Lead: Minakshi Jagota
* Media Club – Media & PR Head: Akrat Kumar
* Sports Club – Sports Club Head: Aayush Sharma
* Cultural Club – Club Lead/Coordinator: Anshika

These student-led clubs provide opportunities for students to develop leadership, teamwork, communication, creativity, and technical skills.

Coding & Project Club

The Coding & Project Club was highlighted as an important technical platform for students.

The club organizes technical events and activities, coding competitions, workshops and learning sessions, hackathons and inter-college competitions, project development, and collaborative learning.

Its guiding motto is:

Learn β€’ Build β€’ Compete β€’ Create

The club provides students with opportunities to learn new technologies, work on projects, participate in competitions, and collaborate with fellow students.

Recent Achievements and Events

The department also presented some of the recent achievements and activities of its students.

Chaitanya 2025

Chaitanya 2025 witnessed participation in areas such as project creation, prompt engineering, e-sports, cultural activities, and cybersecurity.

A total of 11 students participated. The students secured 1st position in Dance Performance and 2nd position in Prompt Engineering.

HIET Hackathon

The HIET Hackathon was another significant achievement. It was a 30-hour non-stop hackathon with 25 students participating in areas including Cybersecurity, AI/ML, App Development, and Product Development.

The students successfully secured 2nd position in the competition.
