Summary: Day 2 of B.Tech (CSE) Induction Programme 202627: Bridging Academia, Research and Industry School of Computer Science Engineering & Technology, Government College Dharamshala The second day of the B.Tech (CSE) Induction Programme 2026–27

Day 2 of B.Tech (CSE) Induction Programme 202627: Bridging Academia, Research and Industry School of Computer Science Engineering & Technology, Government College Dharamshala The second day of the B.Tech (CSE) Induction Programme 2026–27 at the School of Computer Science Engineering & Technology, Government College Dharamshala, continued with a series of insightful sessions aimed at familiarizing newly admitted students with the academic, research, and professional opportunities available in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. The day brought together faculty members, industry professionals, researchers, and students, providing the new batch with valuable perspectives on higher education, emerging technologies, research, and career opportunities in the technology sector. Industry Perspective and Career Opportunities An important session was delivered by Mr. Anuj Kumar, Project Manager at TechMatrix IT Consultants, Dharamshala, along with Mr. Sahil and Mr. Sourav Sharma. The session provided students with an introduction to the IT industry and real-world job scenarios. The speakers discussed how students can approach career opportunities, understand industry expectations, and prepare themselves for professional roles in the technology sector. The interaction helped students gain a practical understanding of the transition from college to the professional world and emphasized the importance of developing relevant technical and professional skills during their undergraduate journey. Insights into Machine Learning and Research The programme also featured an engaging session by Mr. Lucky Sharma, a Research Scholar at the School of Artificial Intelligence & Data Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, and a former student of Government College Dharamshala. Sharing his own academic and research journey, Mr. Sharma introduced students to the areas of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and discussed his experiences in research. His interaction was particularly valuable for the students as it provided them with a relatable example of how an undergraduate journey can progress towards advanced studies and research at a premier institute. The session encouraged students to explore emerging areas of Computer Science and develop an early interest in research, experimentation, and continuous learning. 1Introduction to the Department and Course Curriculum Dr. Pawan Thakur, Head of the Department, guided the students through an introduction to the department and the B.Tech (CSE) course curriculum. He familiarized the students with the academic structure and the journey ahead during their undergraduate programme. Along with academic guidance, he also shared his experiences and insights to help students understand the importance of making effective use of their college years. His interaction emphasized that the B.Tech journey extends beyond classroom learning and examinations, encouraging students to develop technical competence, practical skills, discipline, and a broader professional outlook. Exposure to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Dr. Ashish Sharma, Assistant Professor, RGEC, Nagrota Bhagwan, also interacted with the students and introduced them to important concepts and opportunities in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The session helped students understand the growing relevance of AI and ML in the technology landscape and encouraged them to explore these domains as part of their academic and professional development. A Day of Learning and Inspiration Day 2 of the induction programme provided students with a broader understanding of the different paths available within Computer Science and Engineering. The interaction with an industry professional offered insights into career and employment opportunities, while the session with a research scholar and alumnus of the college demonstrated the possibilities of pursuing advanced studies and research. The guidance from the department faculty further helped students understand their academic journey, course curriculum, and the importance of developing themselves beyond the prescribed syllabus. Overall, Day 2 served as a valuable bridge between academia, research, and industry, giving the newly admitted students a clearer perspective on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. The sessions reinforced an important message for the students: the foundation for a successful career in Computer Science begins during college—with curiosity, continuous learning, practical skills, and the willingness to explore new possibilities. The School of Computer Science Engineering & Technology looks forward to providing the new batch with an environment that encourages learning, innovation, research, collaboration, and professional growth throughout their B.Tech journey.
